When is an asset eligible for recommendations?

IRIS.TV will recommend an asset if:

  • The current time is past the release date on the asset

  • The asset doesn’t have any Video Exclusion Terms

  • The asset was not tagged “norec”

Please check with your Technical Account Manager to confirm what field is used for your account's release date. By default, all Brightcove publishers use the “published_at” field for the release date.

Once the asset is eligible for recommendations, IRIS.TV will start recommending that asset to gauge its performance. This trial period will last until the asset receives 50 recommendations. Then, IRIS.TV will adjust its weight according to its performance.

Based on this performance an asset is assigned a value that will shift over time depending on the asset’s continued performance.

IRIS.TV will then make a recommendation based on the following:

  • The publisher’s taxonomy and programming rules

  • The performance of the video asset across all viewers

  • The preferences of the specific user

Please note: IRIS.TV evaluates the performance of an asset in a recommendation position separate from its performance as an initial asset. How an asset performs as an initial view will not always tie to how it is recommended by IRIS.TV.
